This workshop is designed for FlexPod-related teams who are involved with the design, implementation, and management of FlexPods. It assumes that a FlexPod is either being installed or has been installed.


The use of a converged infrastructure within data centers is rapidly changing the techniques needed to manage a data center. FXOPS-SA focuses on the Cisco/NetApp FlexPod architecture, a specific converged infrastructure, and how to optimize the Flex-Pod architecture for application delivery. It looks at ways of implementing and configuring a FlexPod, paying particular attention to the Unified Computing System (UCS) from Cisco.Cisco UCS represents a change of approach in the use of servers generically within the data center and specifically within the Flex-Pod. A key purpose of this course is to explain and demonstrate the features and functions of UCS and their relevance to FlexPod administrators. Cisco Validated Designs are used as case studies: for example, VMware vSphere 5.1 and Nexus 9300. In addition to UCS, all the elements of a typical FlexPod are covered, including Nexus, hypervisors, NetApp Storage, and ONTAP software. Application optimization for all three physical device platforms also is considered.A series of labs, interspersed within the training, reinforces the learning with a virtual hands-on experience of UCS within the context of FlexPod. Labs are run as part of each relevant module, including storage and network optimization for application delivery, remote access and login, configuration of FlexPod VMware parameters, Nexus 5548UP configuration, and Nexus 1000V configuration. Firefly is constantly improving these labs to reflect the changing needs of FlexPod administrators.
