Enrollment in this course is not restricted. However, typical students taking this course include technical IBM personnel from the FTSS, ATS and Techline organizations as well as business partner technical personnel involved with planning, installation, configuration and upgrading of xSeries servers and use of IBM Director systems management software.

This is the entry course for all of the System x Technical Education Roadmaps, including certification, clustering, and systems management. The student will gain a thorough understanding of the design, architectures, features, and functions of IBM System x servers and IBM BladeCenter products.

Day 1 Welcome Unit 1: Introduction to IBM System x Unit 2: System x server subsystem technologies: Disk subsystem Unit 3: System x server subsystem technologies: Memory and PCI subsystems Unit 4: System x server subsystem technologies: Processor and network subsystems Unit 5: System x systems management Lab 1: Connecting to remote lab hardware Lab 2: Configuring a solution using Standalone Solutions Configuration Tool (SSCT) Lab 3: Verifying a solution using IBM ServerProven Day 2 Unit 6: System x tools and support Unit 7: System x systems overview: Tower servers Unit 8: System x systems overview: Rack servers Unit 9: System x systems overview: IBM eX5 enterprise servers Unit 10: IBM BladeCenter overview Lab 4: Configuration: Integrated Management Module (IMM) Lab 5: Configuration: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Lab 6: Configuration: Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) Lab 7: Configuration: IBM System x DDR3 Memory Configurator Day 3 Unit 11: IBM System Storage DS3000 overview Unit 12: IBM System x iDataPlex overview Unit 13: Rack, power, and cooling - Data center design Unit 14: System x business solutions: Virtualization Unit 15: System x business solutions: Could computing Lab 8: Management: Updating drivers using UpdateXpress System Pack (UXSP) Lab 9: Management: MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) Lab 10: Problem determination: Dynamic System Analysis (DSA)
