PowerHA/XD: Extended Distance and Disaster Recovery (AN44G)

IBM Course Code: AN440

Learn to plan for, configure, and manage PowerHA/XD using Geographic Logical Volume Manager (GLVM), Metro Mirror or Global Mirror as the data replication method.

The following replication methods are covered in the course: Geographic Logical Volume Manager (GLVM), Synchronous and Asynchronous; Metro Mirror on the IBM TotalStorage DS8000, DS6000 and SAN Volume Controller, and Global Mirror on the SAN Volume Controller.

What You'll Learn

  • Plan for data replication over a distance, considering replication method (software versus hardware), bandwidth requirements, latency, and time-to-write
  • Describe GLVM (Synchronous and Asynchronous), Metro/Global Mirror, and PowerHA/XD concepts and processing
  • Plan for and implement PowerHA/XD with GLVM and Metro/Global Mirror
  • Perform on-going maintenance of the PowerHA/XD cluster

Who Needs to Attend

This is an advanced course for AIX system administrators and support personnel who are responsible for the implementation and maintenance of IBM Power systems running PowerHA/XD clusters including.

  • Individuals who wish to understand PowerHA/XD concepts and how it can be used to provide automated disaster recovery.
  • Individuals who wish to learn how to implement GLVM, Metro Mirror or Global Mirror as a data replication method for PowerHA/XD.

Prerequisites

You should have:

  • Experience with installing and performing standard PowerHA for AIX configuration functions

which can be obtained through one of the following mandatory courses:

  • HACMP System Administration I: Planning and Implementation (AU540) or
  • PowerHA for AIX I: Implementation, Configuration and Administration (AN410)
  • or equivalent experience

You should also have:

  • Experience with the the principles of good system management; TCP/IP Communications Concepts and Tools

These skills can be obtained by attending:

  • AIX 5L TCP/IP I: Configuration (AU070) or
  • TCP/IP for AIX Administrators (AN210)
  • or equivalent experience

You should also have:

  • Experience with LVM Concepts and Configuration

These skills can be obtained by attending:

  • AIX System Administration I: Implementation (AU140) or
  • Power Systems for AIX II: AIX Implementation and Administration (AN120)
  • or equivalent experience and
  • AIX System Administration II: Problem Determination (AU160) or
  • Power Systems for AIX III: Advanced Administration and Problem Determination (AN150)
  • or equivalent experience
